MINUTES OF THE II SESSION OF THE COUNCIL OF RELIGIOUS LEADERS Print E-mail

The II Session of the Council of Religious Leaders was held
on June 10, 2015, in Astana.
The participants of the II Session of the Council of Religious Leaders included:
 
Nursultan Nazarbayev President of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Head of the Secretariat Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
 
 
Representatives of Islam:
Dr. Abdulrahman Abdullah al-Zaid Assistant Secretary General of the Muslim World League;
Ayatollah Sheikh Mohsen Araghi Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools ofThought;
Yerzhan Mayamerov Supreme Mufti of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Kazakhstan.
 
 
Representatives of Christianity:
Jean-Louis Tauran President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Cardinal;
 
Pavel Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus;
Munib Younan President of the Lutheran World Federation;
Richard Atkinson - The Bishop of Bedford, Representative of the Church of England.
 
 
Representative of Judaism:
Yitzhak Yosef Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel.
 
 
Representatives of Buddhism:
Zong Xing Deputy Chairman of the Buddhist Association of China;
Phallop Thaiarry Secretary General of the World Fellowship of Buddhists.
 
 
Representative of Hinduism:
Samir Shantilal Somaiya Chairman of the Institutes for Hinduism and Inter-religious Dialogue.
 
 
Representative of Taoism:
Tang Chengqing Deputy Chairman of Taoist Association of China.
 

 
Representative of Shintoism:
Tanenori Terai Managing Director of the Association of Shinto Shrines Jinja Honcho.
 
 
Representative of Zoroastrianism:
Homi Burjor Dhalla President of the World Zarathushti Cultural Foundation. 
 
 
The Council of Religious Leaders approved the following agenda at its II Session:
 
1.            Changes in the composition of the Council of Religious Leaders.
2.           Welcoming remarks.
3.           Approval of the draft Declaration by the participants of the V Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
4.           Fixing the year of the III Sessionof the Council of Religious Leaders.
5.           Fixing the year of the VI Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
6.           Adoption of the Minutes of the II Sessionof the Council of Religious Leaders.
 
At the II Session of the Council of Religious Leaders participants had a fruitful exchange of views and opinions on the issues of the Agenda.
All participants of the Session of the Council of Religious Leaders took part in discussions on the above-mentioned issues.
 
 
The following decisions were taken based on the suggestions of the participants of the II Session of the Council of Religious Leaders:
1.           To include the newly elected religious leaders of Islam, Christianity and Judaism in the Council of Religious Leaders:

                  - His Grace, The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury;
             - His Excellency Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef, Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel;
                 - His Excellency Ayatollah Sheikh Mohsen Araghi, Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought;
             - Supreme Mufti of the Republic of Kazakhstan,Chairman of the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Mayamerov.

2.           To approve the draft Declaration by the participants of the Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions;

3.           To hold the III Session of the Council of Religious Leaders in 2018;
 
4.           To hold the VI Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in 2018;
 
5.           To adopt the Minutes of the II Session of the Council of Religious Leaders.
