FOUNDER OF THE ORGANIZATION«THE CORDOBA INITIATIVE»

 He was born in 1948 in Kuwait.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Columbia University and a master’s degree in plasma physics from Stevens Institute in New Jersey.
His father was the theologian, educated at Al-Azhar University in Cairo. His father was sent from Al-Azhar to the United States of America in order to head the growing Muslim community of New York. Feisal Abdul Rauf continued the work of his father.
From 1983 to 2009, Rauf served as imam of the New York mosque «Masjid Al Farah» on the Broadway.
The founder of non-profit organization «American Society for Muslim Advancement» (ASMA) which aims to promote the discussion of Islam in society.
He was one of the active participants of the project «Leader Group on American-Muslim Rapprochement» in the framework of which in 2008 were developed a set of recommendations, some of which were accepted subsequently to realization by Administration of the President of Barack Obama.
The document urged the USA to attract opposition parties of Egypt, including «Muslim Brotherhood», and to use intermediaries for adjustment of contacts with Hamas party in hope to pacify terrorist groups.
Under the instructions of the Department of State and the U.S. President, he repeatedly made tours to the Middle East region, including «The Arab spring» period.
In the USA, he is called «the informal Envoy of the U.S. President in the Middle East».
He is a member of council of 100 leaders (C-100) of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
In April 2011 the magazine Times called him one of the most influential 100 people of the world.
He is author of books and sets of publications on Islam.
He holds awards from different communities, the organizations and mass media.
The imam Feisal Abdul Rauf as the special envoy of the U.S. President on establishment of dialogue with the Islamic world took part in the work of the World forum of spiritual culture in Astana (2010).
