President of Arab Republic of Egypt The ARE President Mohammed Khosni Mubarak was born on 4 May 1928 in Manufia Province located in the centre of Egypt, in the family of a military officer. After school he entered the Military Academy of Egypt where he received the degree of the Bachelor in military services. In 1950 K.Mubarak continued his studies at the Military Air Academy and became the bachelor in aviation. In 1952-1959 he worked first as a teacher, then as a head of the aviation faculty of the military college. Later he was holding different positions, including managing positions, in Egyptian air force: pilot, instructor, commander of the fleet and of the base. In 1964-65 he studied at the Higher Military Academy named after Frunze in Moscow. K.Mubarak became the head of the military delegation in the USSR. The same year he was appointed as a commander of the Western Air Force Base of Cairo Airdrome. In the period from 1967 to 1972 he was appointed as the director of the Air Force Academy and the head of the personnel of Egyptian air forces. During his military career K.Mubarak mastered dozens of airplane types and he was awarded with the title "Kharrier King". In 1972 he was appointed as the General Commander of the Air Force and the Deputy Minister of Defense. The same year he was appointed as the Minister of Defense. These positions allowed him to reorganize the Egyptian aviation, at that time not corresponding to modern requirements, and to prepare it for the war with Israel that started on 6 October 1973. During Arab-Israeli war in 1973 the air attack on Israeli military posts was successfully implemented under the commandment of K.Mubarak. In October 1973 K.Mubarak received "Blue Star" Award from the hands of the President Anuar Sadat, which is the highest Egyptian military award, and the title of Aviation Marshall. In April 1975 he was appointed as the Vice-President of ARE, in 1978 he was elected as the Deputy Chairman of the National Democratic Party. In 1981, after the murder of President A.Sadat from the hands of Islamists, as a result of the National Referendum, K.Mubarak became the President of Arab Republic of Egypt and the Chairman of the National Democratic Party. President M.K.Mubarak was reelected four times for the new presidential term during the elections in 1987, 1993, 1999 and 2005. During his presidency K.Mubarak led Egypt from the deep economic crisis by means of structural reforms in the economy of the country, liberalization of financial tools and development of the local industry. K.Mubarak is a key person in the process of the Middle East regulation, as well as a recognized leader in the Arab world. As recognition of his high international authority, the President K.Mubarak was elected twice as the Chairman of the African Unity Organization during 1989 - 1990 and 1993 - 1994. He was also awarded with various state awards and international prizes, such as "Man of Peace" in 1983, "Person of the Year" in 1984, "Man of the Year" in 1984, award "For Human Rights" in 1990, UN award "For Human Population" in 1994. In Egypt K.Mubarak was awarded with numerous civil and military titles and orders, such as the Nile Order, Order of the Republic, Order for Honours of the 1st Degree, Sinaya Order of the 1st Degree, Order of Star of the 1st Degree, military orders - Order of the Republic of the 1st Degree, and Order for Courage of the 1st Degree. President K. Mubarak is married to Susan Tabet. He has two sons Alaa and Gamal, and a grandson. |
