ImageMahmoud Ahmad Gazi (father's name - Hafiz Mohammad Ahmad Faruhi) was born on 18 September 1950, citizen of IRP. He graduated from Oriental Studies Faculty at Punjab University, IRP, and he has the PhD Degree (Islamic Sciences).

Currently he is the professor at the Faculty of Shariah and Law at the International Islamic University (IIU), Islamabad.

Previously he was holding the following positions in different organizations:

1. 1973 - 1979 - Assistant to the lecturer, lecturer at the Islam Study Institute.;

2. 1979 - 1981 - Graduate Student, Assistant to Professor at the Islam Study Institute;

3. 1981 - 1987 - Docent at the Islam Study Institute;

4. 1987 - to present - Professor at the Faculty of Shariah and Law at IIU, Islamabad;

5. 1983 - 1985 - Associated member of the Constitutional Commission approved by the President of IRP;

6. 1984 - 1987 - Editor of the quarterly magazine "Fikr-o-Nazar" (in Urdu), Islam Study Institute;

7. 1981 - 1987, 1991 - 1993 - Editor of the quarterly magazine "Al-Dirasat al-Islamiyyah" (in Arabic), Islam Study Institute;

8. 1987 - 1994 - Director of the Islamic Centre in "Faisal" Mosque;

9. General Director of "Dauah" Academy, IIU, Islamabad,

10. General Director of "Shariah" Academy , IIU, Islamabad;

11. 1990 - 1993, 1997 - 2000 - member of the Islamic Ideology Council;

12. 1998 - 1999 - Judge of Shariah Appeals Body of the Supreme Court of IRP;

13. 1999 - 2000 - Member of the National Security Council (NSC) IRP;

14. August 2000 - August 2002 - Federal Minister of IRP on Religion Affairs, Umre and Zakat;

15. August 2002 - October 2004 - Vice-President of the International Islamic University, Islamabad;

16. October 2004 - August 2006 - President of the International Islamic University, Islamabad.

Membership in Different Organizations:

1. 1991 - 1994 - Member of the Council of Advanced Studies of the Open University named after Allam Ikbal.

2. 1990 - 1994 - member of the Religious Council, joint legal management.

3. 1980 - to present - legal advisor to the Federal Shariah Court of Pakistan

4. 1981 - to present - legal advisor of Shariah Appeals Body of the Supreme Court of IRP.

5. Member of Arab Academy, Damask, Syria.

6. Member of the board of trustees of the university named after Ibn-al-Rashid, Cordova, Spain.

7. Member of the Academic Council, IIU, Islamabad.

Besides, M.À.Gazi is a member of the councils and commissions of different academic institutions in IRP.

He speaks Urdu, Arabic and English fluently, and he can communicate in French and Farsi.

Teaching Experience:

1. 1967 - 1968 - Teacher of Arabic, Islamic Law and Jurisprudence at "Furqania" Madrsah in Ravalpindi.

2. 1968 - Teacher of Arabic and Islamic disciplines at "Milliyyah" Madrasah, Ravalpindi.

3. 1969 - 1980 - Teacher of Arabic at the Islam Study Institute.

4. 1974 - Teacher of history on external relations management, Kaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.

5. From 1981 to present he teaches the following disciplines in IIU:

- Islamic international law;

- Islamic administrative and constitutional law;

- Islamic procedural law;

- Application of Shariah in the modern world - problems and perspectives;

- Legal right in Koran and Sunna;

- Crimes against human rights;

- Evidence of Islamic Law;

- Claims in Islamic Law.

Scientific Activity:

1. 1969 - Cooperation with the prominent Egyptian poet Shaikh Sawi Ali Shalan for translation of several poems of Mohammad Ikbal into Arabic.

2. 1969 - Researcher at the Islam Study Institute.

Ì.À.Gazi took part in more than 100 conferences in IRP and abroad. He had numerous visits to Saudi Arabia, Syria, Libya, Egypt, Algeria, Turkey, France, UK, India, South Africa, USSR, Malaysia, Morocco and USA. He had one visit to Kuwait, Denmark, Holland, Italy, Kenya and Australia.

He is the author of 23 books on Islamic law, political education of Moslems, Islamic revival, Islamic economics and Islamic education. He wrote more than 100 articles on similar subjects.
